Who must not fast in the month of Ramadan?

Ramadan fasting is essential for every muslim as it is one of the main pillars of Islam. But there are certain situations where it is optional to fast in the month of Ramadan.

If one are not able to fast during Ramadan (due to a good reason like if he/she is traveling or sick or weak) the he/she must complete the fast in some other day.

If one is permanently sick due to old age the he must do fidiya which means feeding a poor person for each day of fasting.

Pregnant women has the option to fast or not if she believes that fasting can weaken her child. They have to option to fast some other day or to do fidiyah which means feeding a poor person for each day.

Women who are experiencing post-childbirth bleeding or are in their menses are not allowed to fast until their bleeding ends. They must make up the days they missed fasting at a later date.
